King PJ and Queen Daisy Crowned

Senior PJ Sarwinski and Junior Daisy Anderson were crowned as the 2016 fall homecoming king and queen, prior to the Galena vs. Baxter football game Friday evening. Other candidates included Senior JayCee Flowers, Junior Dylan Watkins, Sophomores Tyler Lloyd and Kyleigh Sullivan,Freshman Kasen Russell, and Dee Dee Etchison. Boxtop Dillybar Party

The students at Liberty Elementary who collected 50 Boxtops got to have a Dillybar party recently. Each student who got 50 Boxtops got to eat a Dillybar from Dairy Queen and they were also given 100 Liberty Bucks. Liberty will continue to collect more Boxtops throughout the school year. The new goal for all of the classes is to get 600 Boxtops. If they achieve this goal then the whole class will get to have a pizza party! . . .

Elks Lodge Donates Dictionaries & Playground Equipment

The Galena Elks Club recently donated some dictionaries and playground equipment to students at Liberty Elementary.  Each third grade student, as well as their teachers, received a dictionary to be used in and outside the classroom.  Larry and Nancy Cure represented the Elks Club and were the ones passing out the dictionaries.  They also delivered some playground equipment for all the students to use. . . .

GHS Kicks Off School Year with Connect Program Activities

Galena High School students kicked off the 2016-17 school year on Thursday, August 11 with a variety of activities.  For the past several years, GHS has sponsored a "Connect" program, connecting incoming freshmen with upperclassmen mentors.  These groups are known as Connect Crews.  Each of the Connect Crews consists of 2 upperclassmen mentors and 6-8 freshmen.  The purpose of the Connect program is to help . . .
